Odroid XU4 Retropie problem after upgrade

$

I have an Odroid XU 4 and the retropie with emulationstation we’re running very well. I shed the Ubuntu 16.04 and I updated to 18.04. After the update when I call emulationstation this is the error I have:

HTML Code:

SDL_VIDEO_EGL_DRIVER=/usr/lib/arm-linux-gnueabihf/mali-egl/libGLESv2.so emulationstation --debug

lvl2:  EmulationStation - v2.7.6rp, built Mar 31 2019 - 02:33:22
lvl2:  Creating surface...
lvl2:  Created window successfully.
terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::logic_error'
  what():  basic_string::_M_construct null not valid
Aborted

I made Basic install from the retropie setup and also update all and nothing. What could be the problem? Nobody knows. Some say is video, but I have days looking for the solution and I cannot figure watt it is the problem.

I hope someone can help.

15-F024WM Touchscreen: On-screen keyboard annoyance

$

Hello,

I installed the latest Ubuntu version on an H 15-F024WM and everything is working fine, but being a touchscreen laptop the on-screen keyboard pops-up everytime I touch the screen. I tried some Google-Fu and the only thing that comes up is installing an extension for GNOME but that doesn't really seem to apply here. When I go to the links, it states I don't have GNOME installed.

I already checked the check box under Accessibility and it's off.

Anyone have any other ideas how to stop this behavior?

Need to figure out a plan for Postfix/SMTP/Email server - Ubuntu 16.04

$

Greetings,

I need to set up a simple email server with Postfix/SMTP, something I've never done before. I have one server which hosts all of my domain names. I am now setting up a separate server intended to deal with sending emails for all of these domain names. I had something working good on Dreamhost, but they have an SMTP quota of 100 emails per hour. One of my websites is becoming so active that it likely sends out more than 100 emails per hour. Dreamhost has no other solution other than for me to set up my own email server.

Here is what I require:

1) send-only emails - The bulk of the emails are automated notifications sent to site members on an email address like "no-reply@mysite.com".

2) forward-only emails to Gmail - Other emails are simply forwarded to my personal Gmail for me, email addresses like "support@mysite.com".

3) Be able to respond via Gmail - If a member sends a support question to "support@mysite.com", I want it to forward to my personal Gmail account. I would like to respond on Gmail, have it get sent to the user and make it look like it came from "support@mysite.com". This SMTP configuration is already setup with my site email addresses with the way Dreamhost has it hosted. Now I need to be able to do it on my own SMTP email server.

4) Automated security updates, anti-spam, anti-blacklist, email-reliability - I have no idea how any of this works, so it needs to be as simple and automated as possible to secure the emails and prevent unintended blacklist issues that block emails.

5) No mailboxes are required, don't want any emails saved on the server.

6) Emails on 30+ domain names.

How should I set this up? Do people usually install Postfix on the same server as their domain name web hosting server, or put it on a separate email-only server? I read a little bit into the tutorials and I got stuck in the configuration section where it asks for a domain name. If "mysite.com" is suppsoed to be listed as a "hostname" in the postfix configuration, how to do I go about it if it's already hosted on a separate server? Plus what should I do if I plan on having email addresses on 30 different domain names? Do I just have to pick 1 domain name as the main "hostname" on my postfix server or something?

How would I go about the DNS settings if I pick something like "email.mysite.com" as the hostname? Do I set up an "A" record like email.mysite.com > 192.168.1.1 (the IP address of my email server)? Or do I need to set up an MX record?

Thanks
Kind regards

systemd-boot can't find /vmlinuz

I think I already know the answer, but I will ask anyway.

Is it possible to boot using systemd-boot without having to move the kernels from system partition to esp?

My esp is only 100mb and I have to many ntfs and ext4 partitions behind it. So I can't increase it.
Its a slick boot system but a hassle to move each distro's kernel to es

I was hoping to tell systemd-boot to look here, not there. There's no way on the entries to do that is there?
Thanks.

Linux Pointer Accuracy

We all know it. Linux touchpad and mouse accuracy sucks in comparison to OSX and Windows. It's literally the last thing keeping me from making the full-time switch to Ubuntu on all my computing apparatuses.

I've tried tweaking config files, acceleration profiles, distros, mice, etc. This is my last desperate plea. Please, God, someone point me in the direction of someone who can help my mouse land on its target.

Cannot make any bootable Windows 7 Install USB from Ubuntu Linux.

A continuation of this unresolved hot mess.

I downloaded a legitimate Windows 7 ISO from Microsoft with my license key.

I changed my BIO settings as described here (I'm on a Dell Precision 7520 laptop):

https://www.dell.com/support/article...e-System-Setup

I used WoeUSB to make a bootable USB drive, got an error.

I right clicked on the ISO file itself and used Disc Image Writer and it seemed like it made a bootable drive.

I try booting from it, and I keep getting the error:

"Selected boot device failed."

I called Dell technical support and they told me to change the BIOS settings which I already did. Ultimately, they couldn't help me and I wasted time with that phone call.

I've been scouring Google all day and keep finding "solutions" that don't even work.

How do I install Windows 7 from a USB drive on a modern motherboard?

Just wasted my entire Sunday dealing with this when I was supposed to be visiting family this weekend.

That 2019-03-15 update has disrupted so much of my free time in an attempt to fix this mess that I'm seriously thinking of using Windows 10. And that sickens me.

I have a splitting headache right now.

How to simply setup and connect to Ethernet connection please?

Hi,

I've just installed Disco Dingo (dev branch) on an old laptop and would simply like to connect online (wired) with my provider login and password.
(In windows we setup a new connection and just enter username and password.)

Would you be kind enough to walk me through this in Ubuntu please?

The router/ethernet cable is connected and the router and laptops have been rebooted, etc. The router is working OK because my Windows PC is connected to this forum.

Thanks . (I look forward to using Ubuntu on this old but still OK laptop - to replace Windows 7.)

(I see that ipconfig is not recognized anymore I believe in this build.)

[ubuntu] serial console enablement- upstart to systemd

$

Hi,
I am new to ubuntu & systemd capabilities.
I am trying to set the systemd service for bring up of serial tty console on 18.04 version of ubuntu.

Earlier I had following init script that used to work well with upstart on 14.04 version.

/etc/init/ttyS0:
--------------------------------------------
# ttyS0 - getty
#
# This service maintains a Getty on ttyS0

start on stopped rc RUNLEVEL=[2345] and (
not-container or
container CONTAINER=lxc or
container CONTAINER=lxc-libvert)

stop on run level [!2345]

respawn
exec /sbin/getty -L 9600 ttyS0 vt102
--------------------------------------------

To convert above upstart script into systemd function, I tried modifying ExecStart line in serial-getty@service. However the console is getting hung for the ubuntu VM after I restart it.

Can you please guide me to get above upstart script converted in right manner in systemd function?

Thank you in advance,
Sumant

Export: Not a valid identifier (Cuda environment setup)

Hi I am new to Ubuntu and don't know much about the environment setup. While, after I installed Cuda, I tied to use "nvcc - version" to check whether the installation was successful or not. However, it showed that "nvcc is not found". It happened maybe because I didn't add the path to the ~/.bashrc file. However, when I added the path to the PATH variable as the installation guide (https://docs.nvidia.com/cuda/cuda-in...lation-actions) shows, it failed.

Part of my ~/.bashrc is :

Code:

#CUDA

export PATH=/usr/local/cuda-10.1/bin:/usr/local/cuda-10.1/NsightCompute-2019.1${PATH:+:${PATH}}

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/cuda-10.1/lib64\
                        ${LD_LIBRARY_PATH:+:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}}

# added by Anaconda2 installer
export PATH="/home/veronica/anaconda2/bin:$PATH"

export CAFFE_ROOT=/home/veronica/caffe
export PYTHONPATH=/home/veronica/caffe/python:/home/veronica/anaconda2/bin/python

# add Bazel path
export PATH="$PATH:$HOME/bin"

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/lib/nvidia-418

export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/home/veronica/.mujoco/mjpro150/bin

But, when I tried to make this file work:

Code:

$ source ~/.bashrc
bash: export: `:/usr/local/cuda-10.1/lib64:/usr/lib/nvidia-418:/home/veronica/.mujoco/mjpro150/bin': not a valid identifier

I am sure these folders all exist.

PS: ":/usr/lib/nvidia-418:/home/veronica/.mujoco/mjpro150/bin" could work well before I added cuda path.

And I tried to change the path to

Code:

export PATH=/usr/local/cuda-10.1/bin${PATH:+:${PATH}}
export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=$LD_LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/cuda-10.1/lib64

or
Code:

export LIBRARY_PATH=$LIBRARY_PATH:/usr/local/cuda-10.1/lib64${LD_LIBRARY_PATH:+:${LD_LIBRARY_PATH}}
No one works. Please help me. Thank you in advanced!!!

[OtherOS_] rEFInd to replace grub troubles?

$

HI all,

I have a problem... I am a distro-hopper. But every time I try a new distro I screw up my grub install and end up unable to boot.
I am running a HP Pavilion x2 12-b020nr 12" Detachable Laptop with Intel Core M3, 4 GB RAM, 128GB SSD.
My HD is partitioned:
SDA1 - EFI - 537MB
SDA2 - Linux root - 21GB
SDA5 - /media
SDA6 - /home = 33 GB
SDA4 - Android-X86 - 36GB
SDA3 - Swap

Latest troubles: I replaced my Ubuntu install with Robolinux on SDA2. During install it asked if I wanted grub installed and where. 1st time I tried SDA (thinking somehow wholistic?)
Reboot results with grub bash prompt.
I tried a reinstall and this time choose SDA2 for grub install.
Reboot results with grub bash prompt.
Rebooted - hit esc and tried every single boot possibility listed in the Bios and inside the EFI file listings (lots of remanants of past distros - more later)

Next I booted with my Ubuntu USB disk and tried grub repair... same bash prompt.
tried Ubuntu again and reinstalled grub... same bash prompt

Anyway - I learned somewhere around here (sorry - you deserve some credit... but I forgot where) I can boot from the bash prompt:
ls - [to show your hd partitions and names - pick the one which your linux distro is installed on)
set prefix= (hd0,gpt2)/boot/grub
insmod normal
normal

Boots into the robolinux grub screen just fine. I tried running grub update after booting but reboots result in the grub bash prompt again.

Anyway - since I always seem to mess up grub I have been reading about other alternatives. I found some stuff on rEFInd and it sounds interesting. Any testimonials out there? The side story is I would like to be able to select my OS with my touch screen since I don't always have my keyboard attached - long story.

Sorry - trying to focus.
I'd like to fix grub or try rEFInd. I'd also like to clean up all my past distro install efi files and the list shown inside BIOS too. Bonus points also for getting my Android X86 install to boot easily with one solution. Currently I have to hit esc and load the android.efi file...

Okay - and if the answer is to keep Grub - what is the proper answers during install for grub? Should I never install it again and then boot at the bash prompt and run grub update?

Thanks in advance,
Frank

[ubuntu] Installing Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on MBP 5,2 (mid 2009)

I use a MBP 5,2 (from mid 2009), and would like to install Ubuntu 18.04 on it. Any experience or suggestions for this. I have installed 9.04 and then 14.04 on it in the past, and the techniques I used are detailed below. As 14.04 installed in a routine manner just as on a PC, I am wondering whether that may be the case for 18.04 as well?

Here is my hardware:
MBP 5,2
Ram 8 GB 1067 DDR3
2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo
NVIDIA Ge Force 9400M/9600M GT

History of 9.04 and 14.04 installs on this computer:

I initially installed Ubuntu 9.04 on it back in 2009, then 14.04 in 2014, and now would like to install 18.04 om it. There were some issues with the 9.04 install and I ultimately used rEFit to get it done. In 2014, the 14.04 went really smoothly: I used the regular 64-bit 14.04 iso. (NOT the MAC 64-bit), and rEFIt was not needed at all. I allocated drive space using the installation usb, just like one would do on a PC, and everything went incredibly smoothly. I did need to set the boot to nomodeset for the liveusb, and I had to do it for the first boot into Ubuntu. Once I booted in and installed the NVIDIA driver, it was no longer needed. To install the NVIDIA driver, I just typed "Additional Drivers" in the dash and the tool came up right away for installing it.
