Audio feedback issue

$

First off, I am running a Dell Inspiron I3670 with a i5-9400 2.90 GHz processor and 12 GB of RAM. I am running the new Ubuntu MATE 20.04 LTS.

I also have an internal HDA-Intel PCH sound card.

I am having a strange problem. Whenever I launch any application that uses audio (VLC, Audacity, Youtube, et. al.) before the audio starts I get a very loud bass thump. It's like some kind of weird feedback. Any idea how I might eliminate this?

[lubuntu] Can't Upgrade From Lubuntu 19.04 to Lubuntu 19.10

I want to upgrade to Lubuntu 19.10 but I can't get the updater to notify me that 19.10 is available.
I saw a post to check that /etc/update-manager/release-upgrades has Prompt=normal which it does.
I saw another post to run do-release-upgrade which gives me the following:
Checking for a new Ubuntu release
Your Ubuntu release is not supported anymore.
For upgrade information, please visit:
http://www.ubuntu.com/releaseendoflife
I visited the site but it only talks about ubuntu.
Does anyone know what I should do next?
Thanks in advance for any help.

All Gnome Shell extensions disabled since Ubuntu 20.04

Hi,

Since the last updates of the mid-week - those who lead to final Ubuntu 20.04 version, I already used the beta since the beginning of development - all my Gnome Shell extensions are always disabled, except "Desktop Icon".

They all well appear in the page extensions.gnome.org/local but, even if I enable them, it does nothing nor changes the look. If I reload the page or restart computer, all come back to disabled. And all worked very well until this week.

Is there a package, library, dependency... that could have been deleted during the update and is needed ? If you know, thanks for your help !

In dconf I have :

Code:

/org/gnome/shell/disabled-extensions []

/org/gnome/shell/enabled-extensions

Even if I enable one addon, as said nothing happens : its icon doesn't appear in the top bar. Never had this before...

Hello
I have a big problem.Yesterday I installed Ubuntu on my chromebook and everything works fine but sound is not. Like I said earlier Dummy Output , I spent about 14h trying to fix it in all ways - nothing helped. I have updated everything , speakers are working on chromeOS and headphone jack too. What do you think about changing distribution ? Not based on debian ?

[ubuntu] Unable to convert OpenSSH private key to private key PEM!

Howdy, everybody,

I'm having a wrath-inspiring problem converting a private OpenSSH (SSH2) key to a private PEM file. I have two Android devices which need a PEM file to access the OpenSSH server on my Ubuntu 20.04 LTS box, and OpenSSL can't convert SSH2 keys. Additionally, ssh-keygen only generates public key conversions.

In Ubuntu 18.04, I was able to use OpenSSL to convert id_rsa to a private PEM, but no longer can. None of the (old) solutions I've managed to find online work, either. I'm completely stumped. Since I access the server remotely, password authentication is out of the question.

I'd greatly appreciate a working solution to this problem that doesn't require installing Wine and PuTTY. Can anybody help?

Thank you in advance.

[ubuntu] Failed to Download Repository Information

I want to update to Ubuntu 20.04LTS from 18.04.4LTS -- My first thought was to check software updater, but I keep getting a strange message about checking my Internet Connection.

Screenshot from 2020-04-26 11-58-05.png

I get regular updates from other bits of software that is installed and on a regular basis, but I don't know why I'm not being notified that 20.04LTS is available.

Screenshot from 2020-04-26 12-03-20.png

Any thoughts about how I would go about troubleshooting this issue?

Thanks,

David

Plank is not available in Gnome Software ?

Hello,

As said in the title, Plank is not available in Gnome Software whereas it is into Ubuntu repositories and you can install it with command lines or Synaptic.
See screen:

https://tugaleres.files.wordpress.co...l-manquant.png

Also, Synaptic is another example of missing softwares in Gnome Software if I remember well.
I guess there are some others but I didn't check all softwares :)

Version: Xubuntu 20.04 LTS

Ps : I'm not sure this the good place for a bug report, so feel free to move it if needed.
My main purpose is to report that in order to fix it because it seems really strange to not find a software that should be available.

Unable to mount raid.

I just did a clean install of ubuntu 20.04 on my system (I used to have 16.04).
My system has 4 harddrives:
/dev/sdb contains the system software (/boot and /).
/dev/sda contains the home directory of the only user.
/dev/md0 is a raid, with physical drives /dev/sdc and /dev/sdd.

I can no longer mount the raid device. Where is the information stored that tells the OS that /dev/sdc and /dev/sdd are a raid?
Since installation, I booted from a clone of /dev/sdb before the upgrade, and the raid mounts properly.

[ubuntu] Weird animation with cursor movement in Ubuntu 20.04

I just upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04 and there is a very odd thing that keeps happening when I move my cursor around on the desktop. I'm attaching a picture. This goes away if I disable animations in GNOME Tweaks but doing that makes cursor movement extremely slow and jerky and makes the system unusable. What can I do to fix this?

Problem with snaps on new install

I recently installed ubuntu 20.04.
I installed emacs, and it won't run (except as root).
When I try to run it, I get the error
>emacs
cannot create user data directory: /mnt/hd1/home/asb/snap/emacs/296: Permission denied

My home directory is /mnt/hd1/home/asb

Permissions for directories
/mnt/hd1/home/asb/snap
/mnt/hd1/home/asb/snap/emacs,
and
/mnt/hd1/home/asb/snap/emacs/296
are all 755.

How do I fix the permisions error?

Failing that, can I install packages without snap?

Unable to Post After Updating Forum Email

I haven't been receiving email notifications when a new post is made to one of my subscribed threads, so after reading the stickies on SSO logins, I updated my Forum email address so that it matches my Ubuntu One email address, and now I am unable to post due to the "you do not have permission to access this page" message.

I have not received a confirmation email to the old (Forum) email address or the email address for my Ubuntu One account after changing my Forum email address, so that may be the problem. Please help.

[ubuntu] 20.04 server install; create bootable RAID1 array

$

I am trying to do a brand new install of 20.04 server. I have 2 drives that I would like to use madam to have a RAID 1 array that is bootable. I believe this should be possible, but cannot get it to work.

I have tried the following:
  1. Create a software RAID md0 of the 2x drives. Create a boot, /, and swap partition on md0. I cannot proceed any further as the "Done" button remains greyed out.
  2. Create a boot partition on one of the drives. I can no longer create a software RAID as the drive the boot partition is on is no longer listed.

I attempted to follow this guide, but it did not work.

Any guidance?

[ubuntu] Trouble with phpmyadmin after 20.04 upgrade

I upgraded from 19.10 to 20.04 and everything is working well except for the Apache webserver and phpmyadmin. After the upgrade the server would not start. i removed and reinstalled Apache2 and it is running now but it would not connect to phpmyadmin. i removed, purged and reinstalled phpmyadmin and now an unformatted page comes up on phpmyadmin that just shows php code, not the user interface. Can anyone offer suggestions for fixing this? Not sure if this is an issue with the apache configuration I have php version 3.4.0. i am running a mariadb server which seems to be fine, can see my databases, etc. Also, .php webpages in my var/www/html folder are not connecting to the database but just show the php code. Thanks
