I just recently upgraded to Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, and I noticed that the notification and calendar area takes too much space in my screen. When I clicked on it, it almost occupies half of my screen. How can I make it smaller.
and also the text size of the notification.

BluRay playback issue after fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04 - lack of AACS file

After switching to Ubuntu 20.04 Focal Fossa I've encountered an issue with Blu Ray playback in VLC - lack of AACS configuration file.
Such a problem didn't occur in previous distros (19.10 & 19.04), in which I didn't have to do anything with AACS.

I suppose I installed everything that could be necessary to BluRay/DVD playback.

In Software & Updates > Ubuntu Software I've checked: main, universe, restricted and multiverse.

Of course I've done apt install ubuntu-restricted-extras:
Code:

ubuntu-restricted-addons/focal,now 26 amd64 [zainstalowany]
ubuntu-restricted-extras/focal,now 67 amd64 [zainstalowany]

Additionally, I installed all libraries that could be related to disk playback:
Code:

What should I do to enable BluRay playback?
I tried to download http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/files/KEYDB.cfg , but I have a major security objections about such workaround.

By the way, on the BluRay disk itself, there're AACS and CERTIFICATE directories - could we use their own content to enable playback?

[ubuntu] No more smb access after migration to UBUNTU 20.04 from UBUNTU 19.10

Hello everyone,
I no longer have access to my devices (NAS and other pcs - windows) from Nautilus. The command smb://IP address doesn't work anymore since the upgrade.

I tried to change the parameter "client max protocol = NT1" in client max protocol = NT1 since my NAS is still in smb1 version. But without change, I can't navigate the network using smb, but I can do it with AFP.
I don't know if this will be useful but I also added "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/gnome-vfs-2.0/moduleslibsmb.so" and modified
"/etc/gnome-vfs-2.0/modules/extra-modules.conf" to account for smb in nautilus. I can browse the Windows network again, but I can't access my files, just the share folder.
To get around the problem I went through an fstab mount, it works but it's less convenient and the login is slower.
Hopefully someone will be able to help me.
Thanks in advance.Sélection_011.png

[ubuntu] 20.04 desktop automated install?

$

At work, we generate OS images for our automated SW testing suites. Now that Ubuntu 20.04 is out, we need to get an image of that. Right now we are trying to automate the image creation through Proxmox+Packer+Ansible, but I'm having some trouble finding out how to automate the install for 20.04 desktop. For 18.04 we used the mini iso with a kickstart file, but I don't see a mini iso for 20.04. Is there a way to automate the desktop iso installer?
Thanks!

Updated to 20.04 and switch from headset to internal mic broke

Hi,

I just updated to 20.04 from 19.10 and before the update I could unplug my headset (uses regular 3.5mm jack) and ubuntu/pulse would automatically switch to the internal speakers and microphone. Now it only switches to the internal speakers and not the internal microphone.

Does anyone now where to begin to troubleshoot this?

Cheers

Thanks in advance.

[ubuntu] Pesty automatic printer installation

$

After determining that 20.04's drivers for my networked Canon MX922 printer were unsatisfactory, I downloaded and installed Canon's proprietary CUPS drivers from its Asian website. 20.04 in its infinite wisdom, however, continues to automatically install its unsatisfactory setup in addition to my own. As soon as I remove what Ubuntu has installed, it quickly re-installs. I wonder whether someone from Redmond has gone to work for Canonical.

Problem with whatsapp service (possibily chrome rendering?)

Hi, I have just made a fresh installation of Ubuntu 20.04 (no upgrade).

Most works well but few things, one of them is applications like Franz or Rambox or All-in-one-messenger. They all share the same issue. Telegram and other services works nice but whatsapp service is rendered with no text only media.

Here is a screenshot taken from Rambox

I believe (but I am not sure) the rendering is done with chrome. In 18.04 they were working just fine without chrome installed. Here I tried to install the latest stable chrome but to no use.

web.whatsapp.com on Firefox works well.

Any one any idea?

Thanks

Compiling QMC2 on Ubuntu 20.04

Hi, I am trying to compile QMC2 (the mame frontend) in 20.04.

After managing to install the dependencies it stills stop with many errors, the first one being:
Code:

In file included from lzma/7z.h:7,
                from sevenzipfile.h:19,
                from imagewidget.h:14,
                from imagechecker.h:14,
                from imagechecker.cpp:9:
lzma/7zTypes.h:98:15: error: expected identifier before numeric constant
  98 | #define False 0
      |              ^

Has any one succeed in doing it or can point me in the right direction since there is no package or PPA?

Thanks

[ubuntu] Chipset Drivers for Asus P8B75-M MoBo

$

I've been deploying Ubuntu on an Asus P8B75-M mobo with an Intel i7 proc with a Hauppauge WinTV-quadHD TV Tuner.

It looks like Ubuntu isn't detecting the tuner since I've followed the steps at the Hauppauge website add support for the tuner.
https://www.hauppauge.com/pages/supp...x.html?#tabs-5

The board has a couple of PCIe slots and I've tried them both with no luck.

I've installed Win7 and Win10 and both detect the card without installing chipset drivers so I know it works.

I've tried Ubuntu 16x and 18x, I also tried using Ubuntu 18 with the 4.15 kernel with no success.

All on-board peripherals are detected - NIC, sound, graphics

This has led me down the path to considering chipset drivers as a potential problem.

Any suggestions on chipset or other recommendations as to what my be preventing the tuner card from being detected would be appreciated.

Need help installing amdgpu-pro drivers. Ubuntu 20.04 LTS

Hello guys,

I need some help here, tried every trick there is that I have found on the net. With no success! :(

I have tried to change the drivers for my ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 to use amdgpu-pro instead of the "Radeon" that comes with the kernel and mesa.

This is one of the guides I have followed, with no luck.
https://linuxconfig.org/amd-radeon-u...r-installation

I have a clean install 20.04 LTS. All updated and upgraded. It was acouple of years since I ran linux, so you can treat me like a novice.

Specific help would be: To remove the already installed drivers, installing the latest amdgpu-pro drivers.

Ubuntu 19.10 visual glitches

Hello,

I am new to this forum, so my post might not be in the right category, so feel free to tell me ;).

I have a Thinkpad T470s running Ubuntu 19.10 since a few months, and everything was fine until I restarted my computer last week-end. Since then, I am experiencing very weird visual glitches, as well as some strange bugs. I have attached some screenshots of what those bugs look like:

screenshot1.jpgscreenshot2.jpgscreenshot3.jpg

I haven't done anything special with my computer until then, so it leaves me wondering what could be causing those glitches. Note that if I restart Xorg by pressing Alt-F2, then "r", the glitches sometimes (but not always) disappear or change shape.

Another thing that I have noticed since a few weeks is that the display sometimes freezes for 5 seconds or so. I have experienced those freezes in LibreOffice Writer very regularly, but it sometimes happened in some other applications.

I am not an expert with Linux so I couldn't identify the cause of the problem, but I will be happy to run commands and copy some logs if it can help anyone...

Thank you very much for your support,

Antoine Brunner

Network Printer error

I'm running a Dell Inspiron I3670 with the new Focal Fossa 20.04 LTS and I cannot get it to talk to my Epson Workforce Pro WF-4734 network printer.

The problem SEEMS to be with CUPS, but I've been digging through Google and all of the answers I've found have been in computer language that was over my head.

I've tried reinstalling the printer several times. I even went to the Epson website and downloaded their "epson-inkjet-printer-escpr2_1.1.11-1lsb3.2_amd64.deb" printer utility, which added an "Epson Inkjet printer #1" option to my printer install interface. Still, regardless of what I try, I still keep getting the 'server-error-internal-error' error.

The computer recognizes that I have a printer on the network. The computer can obviously see it. I just can't print to it. When I try and print to it, it gives me the following error: Stopped - No destination host name supplied by cups-browsed for printer "EPSON_WF_4730_Series", is cups-browsed running?

I've tried stopping and restarting the CUPS service, but that doesn't seem to help. Can anyone provide me with any guidance?

edit: I was able to get a different driver installed, and now it appears to recognize the printer, but when I try to print a test page it stops at "Processing: Rendering completed"

I have a bunch of Seattle Film Works files (sfw) on floppies. I know how to get them off the floppies, but I am looking for a Linux program to convert them to a jpg file format.
I found an extension for chrome browser but it is just a link to a website to convert them but it requires I subscribe to their site for a fee. Any ideas?

I am using Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS

I use Firefox and Thunderbird but want to change to using Opera as my web browser of choice. I want to leave Firefox installed

I have selected Opera as Web Browser in Preferred Applications and notice that Mail Reader is set to Mozilla Thunderbird as it should be.

However, if I open a hyperlink in Thunderbird it insists on opening the hyperlink in Firefox.

I have also tried setting it using the method given here:

https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2224472

Hyperlinks actioned from Opera open in Opera.

How to open hyperlinks from Thunderbird in Opera too?

[server] Docker starts before networking is ready at boot

I'm trying to configure a Pi4 to run Ubuntu 18.04 and a bunch of docker containers with most of the persistent storage needed located on my nas via nfs shares. I've got everything working so far except that when I reboot the system, none of the containers with nfs volumes are able to start (/var/log/syslog shows "network is unreachable" for the container volumes). I've tried a lot of different solutions I've found and none of them seem to work. I'm a little bit new to systemd, but from what I can tell it doesn't seem to honor the networking dependencies defined. Please help!
